As a Man Thinketh, So Is He ~ James Allen
What we think and the thoughts we choose to let rest in our minds shape who we are and the experiences that are drawn to us. If you want to experience joy, success, happiness, fulfillment, love, and abundance, you must begin to take hold of the reins of your mind.
Imagine a horse before it is broken. It bucks, it’s wild, and it causes damage to people and property. Does it do this out of any malicious intent? No, of course not. It is a baby that needs reins and discipline. You wouldn’t put a horse like that in an open field. You would build a small corral in order to train it. We must do the same thing for our mind – build a corral to train our mind – so that it is not allowed to wander willy-nilly through the field. Rather, we learn to have control over our mind, we take the reins, we direct the horse.
Most people do not even realize that they can control their own mind. They think that they are powerless over their brain – the brain goes where it wants, thinks what it wants, and gets stuck on whatever it wants. How many times did I hear from my children growing up, “I can’t control this, this is just me!” There is no such thing. You are what you think about, exactly as James Allen said over 200 years ago. You do have control over what you think.
There are two things you need to understand on the subject of your mind in order to begin taking the reins in your own hands and directing your thoughts. #1 Your mind is like a computer and only spits out what it has seen or heard. A computer cannot generate something that has not been inputted or downloaded; neither can your mind. #2 There is a war on this planet, a war that is raging between positive and negative energies. It is a high cost fight between those spirits and beings that want you to succeed, and those spirits and beings that don’t want you to succeed. If you do not understand this reality, you will always fall victim to your thoughts and feel powerless to change your life.
What steps can I take to become the master over my mind?
Do you remember the movie What about Bob? “Baby steps, Bob, baby steps.” Progress is made by taking baby steps consistently, day by day, week by week. [Hint: Remember this with everything I suggest you incorporate into your life!]
I have found the following tools to be irreplaceable on my path to controlling my mind and allowing me to experience whole & complete living! Here are the 7 Key Ingredients to Being A Master Creator!
- Personal Development, wahoo!
- Give it up!
- An hour a day keeps the straight jacket away!
- Seminars, huh??
- Positive all the way!!
- The Watchmen!
- Be Present
Personal Development Wahoo!!
Fill your computer mind with information that is positive and uplifting. Spend 15 minutes to an hour, every day, doing things that will help you to improve yourself. My number one favorite is reading uplifting books. These can be books on personal growth, business, religion, spirituality, meditation, self improvement, or new information on any positive or uplifting subject!
Have you ever had this happen? You are reading a book one night or one morning, and then all you can think about the next day is that book? I remember the first time I read Dracula. I stayed up way past my bedtime because the book was so tense and I wanted to know what was going to happen next. All that night I had nightmares about vampires biting me and sucking my blood… yuck. I woke up not feeling well because I had tossed and turned all night. I became paranoid about new people I met, wondering if vampires actually did exist and was I talking to one right then! It was silly, but it went on for weeks as I read that book.
That’s the kind of power books can have on us. Examine all the negative effects I experienced: lack of sleep, lack of health, fear & obsessive thoughts.
Now let’s look at the effects of putting something positive into my mind. When I read Carol Tuttle’s Remembering Wholeness. Every night I would read about positive affirmations, getting connected to God, and connecting with spiritual guides. I felt good before I fell asleep, I slept deeply and soundly, and I woke up with inspiration of what to do next with positive loving thoughts about myself! I spent my morning walk talking out positive affirmations – I felt good. All this, just from my choice of book! The right books can make a significant difference in your life.
Your personal development time can also be a time of self-reflection, journaling, or meditating. (Journaling – Emotional Balance Homepage, Meditating – Spiritual Connection Homepage)
Rhythm and consistency are the keys to personal development. Pick a time every day for your personal development. Put it into your routine so that it becomes a habit, like brushing your teeth. My personal development time is 5:00 am in the morning & the 15 minutes before I go to bed. These times, when you first wake up & just before you fall asleep are the best times to input new information into your brain. But the most important part of personal development is to just do it! Find the time and do it! The time that you invest on growing and developing and nurturing yourself will pay you incredible dividends in the success of your life!

Give it up!
If you really want to have success with your mind there are a few things that you just need to give up.
Being Right!! I am not just talking about people who can never say they are sorry, although that applies. I am talking about people who are so sure that their perspective of what they think they see is absolutely, 100% right! If you want to experience whole and complete living you need to be able to give up that you are right about your own perspective of your life. For example:
I have the right!! You have the right to be angry, be mean, yell & scream, control others, seek revenge, cause fights, criticize, hurt other people, be skeptical, be anxious, be fearful and push people away. Let’s change that perspective and flip it around. How about you have the right to be happy, be kind, be loving, be forgiving, be trusting, be peaceful, give compliments, be strong, be confident, be courageous & attract love wherever you go. You have the right to experience whole and complete living, have wealth, health and abundance in your life!
Looking good!! Our society today is built on “looking good.” Did you know that a hundred years ago your standing in society was based on the quality of your character? Today your standing in society is based on how good you look and how persuasive your personality is. I’m not just talking about how you physically look. I’m talking about how well you look like you do certain things or believe certain things. Like those people who go to church on Sunday to look like they are following a belief or to look like they are a good person. Give all that up! Do things because it is the right thing to do and because it is what you believe, not because you will look good doing ‘them’. When looking good is our number #1 goal, we push ourselves out of integrity. You cannot gain control over your mind when you are living out of integrity. Spend some time in self-reflect and ask ‘Why am I doing what I am doing? What is my true, core motivation.’
An hour a day
An hour a day keeps the straight jacket away! Pick an hour everyday to focus on controlling your thoughts. This is great to do while meditating because you are already focusing on clearing your mind. So, what do I mean by control your thoughts? I mean to allow thoughts to flow through you without sticking. Imagine that your mind is like a camera. You can choose where to put the focus on the camera and what angle to take the picture. If you were looking at a landscape and deciding what picture to take, you would look through the lens at different perspectives. You wouldn’t make the bad or ugly shots wrong. A field is a field. You look through the lens until you find the beautiful shot that you want to capture for all time. It is the same field, but you are focusing on the most beautiful part of it. For an hour a day, do this with your mind. Allow the negative thoughts to flow through you, over you, and out of you, and choose to focus in on the good thoughts, the beauty that is in your mind and in your life, and in your soul.
For example: When I sit down to meditate my thought process might go something like this, “Oh, I’m not feeling well this morning….I forgot I need to wash that shirt….why did I eat so much last night?….This room is filthy, I really need to clean more….Last night I liked how everyone pitched in to clean the kitchen.” I would allow the other thoughts to flow through me, over me, and out, and I would zoom in on the positive thought “last night everyone pitched in to clean the kitchen.” I would then remember how great it felt when everyone was helping. A thought might try to de-rail you, like “I wish they’d help more often.” Let it flow through you and you redirect your mind back to your positive thought again. Allow it to expand in you and imprint the good feeling of that thought on your soul.

Seminars, say what? Only weird people go to seminars… Not true! Seminars introduce you to new information, give you a chance to learn from different sources, and allow you to gain different tools and perspectives to be successful at living whole and complete! There is information out there that is valuable that you don’t even know. You don’t even know that you don’t even know about it! I have learned how to build my business, how to build myself, how to be in alignment and how to live my life purpose going to seminars. I’ve also experienced breakthroughs that raised my performance level in all areas by a 100%.
The other great thing about seminars is that many times speakers will collaborate with each other. Going to one seminar will give you exposure to a consortium of messages and allow you to pick what resonates with you and is in alignment with your needs at the time. You’ll meet people you never would otherwise and be exposed to different styles of sharing the same message. You get to choose which one is best for you.
I did my first intense seminar when I was 22. What a great set-up for my life! It was the first introduction I had to the power of the brain, and I learned tools to allow me to be successful. I was able to start my own business, get more connected with my immediate family, learn how to powerfully communicate what I desire & be successful at making it happen! Look in your local area for seminars that interest you. Look for seminars focused on helping you to have control over your mind.
I do have one word of caution concerning seminars. The seminar scene can also suck you in and then you spend all of your time going to the latest greatest seminar and you do not have the time to apply what you learned at the last seminar. Pick a seminar that interests you, go learn, apply and let all of that information work in you before you jump on the next band wagon.

Positive all the way!
The law of attraction is alive and well. If you’ve never heard of the law of attraction, here’s a quick definition. What you put out, give off, say, think, or do comes back to you. This is why being positive is so important! When you think negatively about things – your home, your spouse, your friends, your job, you finances, your health, your body – you increase the energy that is flowing into those negative things and you create more of the negative results in your life you don’t want. The same is true for thinking positively about those same things. The type of energy you think with expands, and like energy attracts like energy, negative attracts and creates more negative, and positive attracts and creates more positive.
Think for a moment about the things we say. I can tell so much about a person within 5 minutes just by listening to their choice of words. There is so much energy that is focused in words. It is time to become aware of your words and infuse them with positive language! There’s an old story about Christ that I just love that is the perfect example of this:
Christ and the disciples were walking along the road when they came upon a decaying dog. The dog had clearly died a few days earlier and had been picked apart by birds, the flesh was rotting and a terrible stench was permeating the area. The disciples said, “oh, Master, look how disgusting this dog is. Let us walk around the carcass.” Jesus walked right up to the dog and said, pointing at the mouth, “what beautiful teeth this dog has.”
We can find the positive in every situation when we train our minds to look for it. When you improve your ability to do this, your energy will be drawing in the positive life-results you want instead of the negative.

Affirmations & Declarations
In olden times many cities would have watch towers build to guard themselves from intruders. Watchmen would trade off shifts of looking out to ensure the city’s safety, and to insure enemies didn’t approach from the surrounding lands unseen. Their job was to be alert and awake and warn the city if any intruders or enemies come to war.
Our mind is in a war. I mentioned this earlier that there are negative and positive spirits that are trying to influence us every day. We need to place watchmen over our minds to warn us of negative intruders.
How can you do this? The most effective method is to separate your mind from your thoughts. Wait, what?
Up above I gave an example of taking pictures using different perspectives. In this example, there is the camera and then there is the person who is holding the camera, the one moving it to find different perspectives. Separate your mind into a) the part of your mind that receives thoughts and formulates responses, and b) the watchmen who watches over that part of your mind. The watchmen can warn you of negative thoughts that are threatening to wage war with you.
For example: I wake up, I stub my toe, and I think “This is going to be a horrible day! I’m such a klutz! I’m always stubbing my toe. Stupid bed!” The watchmen raises the alarm and says back “Heads up! I’m detecting multiple negative thoughts here!!”
I can then use a technique of breathing, thought stopping, clearing energy, and other tools to say back to myself. “Hang on, none of this is true, the day just started and is going to be a wonderful! I’m glad my toes work and warn me when I’m not quite awake!”
Example #2: I get home and walk into the kitchen and see a pile of dirty dishes from the night before. I say in my head, “My son never does the dishes! I’ve told him a thousand times!” The watchmen raises the alarm about the negative thought pattern. I can then say out loud “Cancel, cancel, cancel! My son is great at helping around the house, something must have come up for him today. We all forget sometimes.” Then I spend time finding out how I can help my son instead of cursing him for being lazy.
The number one most important thing I can teach you is to be present. None of the techniques on this page will work for you if you are not present. What does it mean to be present? It means that you are here, right now, in this moment, doing exactly what you are doing, being aware of what you are doing, and that is all.
Have you ever started driving to an appointment and realized that you are on auto-pilot driving somewhere else? You were not present in that moment.
Have you ever been talking to someone and realized that you have no idea what they just said? You were not present in that moment.
In today’s world we have so many things on our minds and so many things that we have to do that sometimes is seems impossible to stay present. I promise you that if you expend the effort to do one thing at a time, think about one thing at a time, be aware of your surroundings, the smells, the atmosphere, what everything feels like in the present moment, you will experience more peace. You will feel less overwhelmed and experience more time if you are present to life you are living while you are living it. It takes practice. Start with being fully present for 5 minutes a day. Try it! Use all your senses to be aware and in the current moment, whatever it is. When you can master 5 minutes, try it for 10 minutes. And so on and so forth. The primary purpose of meditation is to teach us to become aware, to calm the mind and body, to simply ‘be’ in the moment.
Finding it overwhelming or too difficult to be present? Now is the time to clear your negative beliefs that are keeping you trapped and that refuse to be quiet.Overcome mental and emotional blocks naturally and with ease. Through a simple proven technique, clear the generational beliefs and trapped energy that is keeping you stuck. Be free to move forward and accomplish all the you desire.
